About
Billie Gastic is the Director of Research and an Assistant Professor at the Relay Graduate School of Education. Her research focuses on educational policy, teachers and teaching, school safety, and Latino youth. Her recent work has been published in Educational Researcher, Education and Urban Society, the Journal of School Health and the Journal of Youth and Adolescence. She is the Chair of the School Community, Climate and Culture SIG and the Program Chair of the Safe Schools and Communities SIG. In 2008, Billie was named a Junior Faculty Fellow by the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education. She is co-editor of The Education of the Hispanic Population: Selected Essays (forthcoming, with Richard R. Verdugo). Dr. Gastic earned her PhD in the Sociology of Education and MA in Sociology from Stanford University, an EdM from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a BA in Economics from Yale University.
