About
As Director of Research, Dr. Billie Gastic manages RGSE’s institutional and external research activities and partnerships. She is the Principal Investigator of projects in RGSE’s research portfolio that focus on elements of effective teaching, preparing effective teachers of high-need students, tracking and measuring student achievement and character development, and teachers’ career trajectories.
Before joining RGSE, Dr. Gastic was a professor of urban education at Temple University and a professor of public policy at UMass Boston. In 2008, Billie was named a Junior Faculty Fellow by the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education.
Billie Gastic earned her PhD in the Sociology of Education, and MA in Sociology, from Stanford University, an EdM from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a BA in Economics from Yale University.
Dr. Gastic is the Chair of the School Community, Climate, and Culture SIG and the Program Chair of the Safe Schools and Communities SIG of the American Educational Research Association. She is also co-editor of The Education of the Hispanic Population: Selected Essays (in press, with Richard R. Verdugo).
